A trade is a job, for example that of a carpenter or plumber, that requires specific manual skills and special training. Labourers and fitters are often multi-skilled – capable of undertaking a variety of different types of work, such as bricklaying, plastering and decorating.
Skilled and semi-skilled workers will normally have achieved accreditation via an approved scheme, such as the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) and may also be required to provide their own personal protective equipment (ppe) such as a hard hat, protective clothing or safety goggles.
Training for a trade is often a combination of an apprenticeship to a skilled tradesperson and a certified course.
