Located between Wales and four other English counties, Shropshire lies in the West Midlands and has five principal towns where the population and the economy are centred. These are Shrewsbury, Telford, Oswestry, Bridgnorth and Ludlow, and there are additionally many market towns dotted around the county.
An attractive landscape with reclaimed canals has enhanced the local tourist industry and as agriculture has declined, so the services sector has grown. Shrewsbury’s geographical position has helped the development of warehousing and distribution, as has a new freight rail facility at Telford.
Both towns have major retail centres. Müller Dairy (UK) Ltd is situated in Market Drayton and The Royal Air Force has two bases at RAF Shawbury and RAF Cosford.
