Lying at the heart of the East Midlands, Leicestershire is bordered by seven different counties. Engineering has long played an important role in the local economy and today Leicestershire boasts a fine range of manufacturers producing motorbikes, sports cars, machine tools, quarrying equipment and much more.
Farming is still carried out in the county and Leicester is the home of the pork pie, Stilton and Red Leicester cheese. Other food-based industries include manufacturers of soft drinks, beer, crisps, biscuits and Indian meals.
Clothing is also a major contributor to the county’s economy, as are financial services and good local transport links mean that freight and distribution is booming.
