West of London, Berkshire is the location of royal residence, Windsor Castle. Major towns include Reading, Slough, Bracknell and Newbury.
As well being home to a variety of industries, notably high-tech companies, Berkshire is known for its dairy produce, and for cheese in particular. Major firms include Vodafone, Microsoft, Fujitsu and Oracle as well as the principal accounting firms Deloitte, Ernst and Young, KPMG and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Europe’s largest, and the world’s second largest, trading estate is in Slough which has more company headquarters than any other UK town or city. Bracknell, like Reading, provides a base for high-tech companies and Newbury has the world headquarters of Vodafone.
